"In the Mood" piano arrangement of the Glen Miller big band swing music - this one is just plain fun!
This is a FUN ARRANGEMENT with an irresistible sound - kids want to play it. And it is surprising how many of them have heard this piece from the 1930's.
Here's Jimmy Stewart in the movie "The Glenn Miller Story," with the music "In the Mood" playing.
If your students know chords, they will recognize the big G chord of the In the Mood intro. Then there is a tricky little chromatic scale for which I have suggested fingerings. Have your students try those out a few times before they embark on their own approach!
You can see in line 3 that the melody is shared between the 2 hands.
Because this music is copyrighted, I'm not able to share it with you for free. I'm sorry - it is $5.00, the minimum allowed price, at SheetMusicPlus.com. If you buy it, I'll make 50 cents.
There are lots of chords, and broken chords in the right hand of this big band pop music. Familiarity with chords really pays off with the patterns in each hand.
I found that my students were well-prepared for page 2 of Glenn Miller's In the Mood when they had first gone through the sheet "Basic Chords."
That sheet prepares the hands to shape chord inversions correctly. First, they must conquer the sheet for the Key of C, and then they move to the key of one sharp, G. That prepares them perfectly for what they find here on page 2 of In the Mood!
Page 2 can stand alone as a performance piece - and it is also the easiest part of the piece to master, and maybe the most fun. If you're in a rush for a recital song, this could be the ticket!
Lots of repetition on page 3... and down at the bottom of the page (not shown), a 2-note minor theme (Eb-D) that is echoed from one octave to another. It sounds cool, and HARD, but is actually quite easy!
I arranged this music over 3 pages to make it easy to read, easy to write on (for the tricky rhythms), and to separate it out into convenient parts.
Your students will love this piece, and the challenge of coordinating the hands together!

This is the perfect easy start for little pianists.
And when they start reading white-key notes on the staff, this is a fun easy resource to say each week, "Choose a new black-key song at home this week and figure it out to show me next lesson!" They will be spending more time at the piano.
A perfect read aloud storybook
for little boys or girls.
The Adventures of Tonsta highlight the travels of a very young boy with a good heart, who goes about helping folk in trouble.
With a red cap on his head and a sack of tools slung over his shoulder, Tonsta seems to meet people in distress wherever he goes.
Lots of trolls in this book - including one who gives him a Christmas gift!

Like some of you, I've been playing the piano since early childhood, and have added a few other instruments along the way, plus an interest in arranging and composing music.
