There are a number of different chord patterns going on in the left hand. All of them are pretty, and help change up the background so that it doesn't become monotonous.
Likewise, on the repeat section which occurs on pages 2 & 3, it makes a real difference to raise the right hand melody up an octave. The new register is a relief to the ear.

The vertical glissando lines, indicating chords broken from bottom to top, may initially be a challenge to play IN TIME for your students. It's a good challenge - singing along to keep the rhythm going can help.
Black is the color of my true love's hair
His lips are like a rose so fair
He has the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands
And I love the ground where on he stands
Black is the color of my true love's hair
His face so soft and wondrous fair
The purest eyes
And the strongest hands
I love the ground on where he stands
I love my love and well, he knows
I love the ground where on he goes
And how I wish the day would come
When he and I will be as one
I go to the Clyde and mourn and weep
Satisfied I never will sleep
I will write him a letter just a few short lines
And suffer death ten thousand times
Black is the color of my true love's hair;
Her lips are like some roses fair;
She's got the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands,
And I love the ground whereon she stands.
I love my love, and well she knows.
I love the ground whereon she goes.
I wish the day, it soon would come;
When she and I could be as one.
For black is the color of my true love's hair;
Her lips are like some roses fair;
She's got the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands,
And I love the ground whereon she stands.
I go to Clyde, and I mourn and weep;
For satisfied, I never can be.
And I write her a letter, just a few short lines;
And suffer death, a thousand times!
For black is the color of my true love's hair;
Her lips are like red roses fair;
She's the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands,
And I love the ground whereon she stands!
For black is the color of my true love's hair;
Her lips are like red roses fair;
She's the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands,
And I love the ground whereon she stands!
For black is the color of my true love's hair!

This is the perfect easy start for little pianists.
And when they start reading white-key notes on the staff, this is a fun easy resource to say each week, "Choose a new black-key song at home this week and figure it out to show me next lesson!" They will be spending more time at the piano.
A perfect read aloud storybook
for little boys or girls.
The Adventures of Tonsta highlight the travels of a very young boy with a good heart, who goes about helping folk in trouble.
With a red cap on his head and a sack of tools slung over his shoulder, Tonsta seems to meet people in distress wherever he goes.
Lots of trolls in this book - including one who gives him a Christmas gift!
