Bach Well-Known Pieces
Musette in D

Some of the best Bach well-known pieces include those from the "Notebook of Anna Magdalena Bach." Among piano pieces, "Musette" is perhaps the most joyous!  Full of leaping notes and staccatos, it has non-stop energy.

Not as hard as it looks

Bach piano piece

Despite the repeated octaves, this piece has some easy sections - and sections very easy to memorize!

The back-and-forth octave D's in the left hand, and later the A's and E's, are fun and repetitive.  The melody is initially just a little 5-note scale, that jumps to another 5-note pattern mirrored by the left hand.

Then comes Part B...

Part B, starting at the bottom of page 1, is a different story!  All of a sudden the right hand is supposed to execute twists and turns, holds and jumps.  The contrasting articulation is fun, but may prove baffling to your students, initially.

Intermediate level, except Part A

The main melody, the sweet little melody with which the piece begins and ends, is easy enough to be taught to elementary students who can reach an octave.

Musette is in "The BIG BOOK"

At least, that's what we call it in my studio.  The truly giant collection of classical pieces that include almost every piece I learned before I went off to college... The Library of Piano Classics (Book 1).

Lettered notes, for hesitant readers

There are many very capable young pianists who still struggle with note reading, especially in the bass clef.  This is for them:

Music with lettered notes

Endorsement for lettered notes

Tony Lu, a visiting performer in our Alaskan town recently, frequently makes use of lettered notes in the music he gives students at the Piano Camp known as "Sonatina."  In his observation, students eventually memorize the notes from SEEING them over and over again.  Makes sense!

Musette in D

A burst of sunshine

This piece has such a happy sound, when played with energy, that it can bring forth spontaneous applause in the right audience, as has happened to me when playing at a retirement home!
