All My Trials & Hold On - one a gospel song, and one a spiritual, they are both bluesy in feeling, & satisfying to play!
These two arrangements are a gift from Doug Hanvey, who offers virtual piano lessons for adults.
The origin of All My Trials is uncertain, but it may be a southern gospel song written in the 19th century. All My Trials became a popular anthem during the 20th century civil rights movement.
This arrangement uses a left hand broken chord pattern that is briefly interrupted by block chords during the song’s bridge, at measures 10 - 13.
Many folk artists have recorded the song, including Pete Seeger, Joan Baez and Peter, Paul and Mary. Paul McCartney released a version in 1990 that spent six weeks on the UK singles charts.

This song has a "bluesy" sound that a lot of kids think is very COOL. I am thinking of some of my students right now who I predict will want to try out one or both of these songs!
All My Trials and Hold On, like many such gospel/spiritual songs, are quite moving, both lyrically and musically.

This is the perfect easy start for little pianists.
And when they start reading white-key notes on the staff, this is a fun easy resource to say each week, "Choose a new black-key song at home this week and figure it out to show me next lesson!" They will be spending more time at the piano.
A perfect read aloud storybook

The Adventures of Tonsta highlight the travels of a very young boy with a good heart, who goes about helping folk in trouble.
With a red cap on his head and a sack of tools slung over his shoulder, Tonsta seems to meet people in distress wherever he goes.
Lots of trolls in this book - including one who gives him a Christmas gift!
