Ah perdona al primo affetto is a little-known duet for high voices by Mozart.
This free vocal sheet music is very pretty, and has all the charm we expect from Mozart. This vocal duet needs to be better known -- it practically sings itself, it is so irresistible.
From the opera "La clemenza de Tito" (The mercy of Tito), the duet roles belong to a soprano and a mezzo-soprano who plays the part of a young man -- a "trouser role," as it is known in opera.
Therefore the "male" role is set high. It may seem odd to your students at first, but it will give you an opportunity to share a little history of opera... what was a castrato, for example?
This version of the music and lyrics of "Ah, perdona al primo affetto" comes from the Petrucci Library at IMSLP. There, it is in the key of A.
I have transposed it into several other keys to make it easier for my vocal students.

Hi, I'm Dana! (Say that like "Anna".) I'm the owner of Music-for-Music-Teachers.com, and a newer site, SingTheBibleStory.com.
Like some of you, I've been playing the piano since early childhood, and have added a few other instruments along the way, plus an interest in arranging and composing music.
You can find out more about me and the reason for this website at my About Me page.
